PADI Underwater Naturalist Specialty

No it doesn’t mean diving naked, that’s a naturist!

Look closer to see more on your next dive. Look for symbioses, predator/prey and other relationships between aquatic plant and animal life. Learn not just what fish and animals are, but how they interact with each other and the environment. It will open your eyes to the wonders that are just below the surface of your local dive site, even in lakes and quarries.

To Start

How do I get started?

As with all of the diving education programmes at Aquasport you start with the training materials. A deposit of £50 is required to book your PADI Underwater Naturalist Specialty. We will provide you with the PADI Underwater Naturalist manual for you to read prior to the start of your training.

Action

What will I do?

During your programme you will cover the following:

  • The major aquatic life groupings and their interactions and factual information that dispels negative myths
  • The role of aquatic plants, food chains and predator/prey relationships
  • Responsible interactions with aquatic life
  • The underwater naturalist’s view of organisms and their roles in the environment

You will have one and a half days of intense underwater naturalist training to complete. In our fully equipped multi-media classrooms you will learn why some creatures behave the way they do and what their role is in the aquatic ecosystem.

You will put into practice what you learn in a combination of skills in two open water training dives.

How long will it take?

Where To?

Where can I go from here?

Once you have completed your PADI Naturalist Specialty you can take full advantage of the fantastic aquatic life found around the world. An ideal progression to your training is the PADI AWARE Fish ID Specialty or The PADI Digital Underwater Photograpy Specialty which will allow you to identify and document your finds.

Once you have completed five PADI specialties and your PADI Rescue Diver and have 50 logged dives you hold all the prerequisites for the PADI Master Scuba Diver certification. This is the highest non-professional rating in the PADI system of diver education.

Here at Aquasport all of our Instructors hold this level of recreational certification. We recommend that every diver takes this route regardless of their further ambitions as we see it as a commitment to education and a real achievement.
