How do I get started?
With such an intense programme it is vital that you have completed all of the pre-requisite self-study. The PADI materials you need to complete the programme are available at Aquasport in the form of an IDC Crew Pack. This contains all of the material introduced for completion of your PADI IDC. A comprehensive list of all the equipment and training materials needed for an IDC is available from Aquasport on request.
Once you have enrolled on your Instructor programme you have full use of the facilities available at Aquasport to prepare yourself for this intensive course.
What will I do?
By completing the whole Instructor Development Course in one go you will gain experience with student divers while learning the PADI System of Diver Education. You will learn to manage and adapt the PADI System to individual student needs. Comprehensive training supported by a wide variety of PADI educational materials earn PADI Instructors the respect of both their students and fellow dive professionals.
The IDC has more than twenty presentations delivered by our full time PADI Course Director. In these academic development sessions you learn to conduct all the core PADI programmes from Discover Scuba Diving through to Divemaster, as well as the business of diving and marketing tips. You will be taught how to plan lessons for the classroom and for both confined and open water training. You will present a minimum number of each of these during the programme where your Course Director and his staff will offer you encouragement and advice to help you perfect your teaching techniques.
All of your training is geared towards development. Once you have reached the required standards you will receive your IDC Certificate of Completion and will be able to attend a PADI Instructor Examination.
If you are already at Instructor level from another recognised scuba training agency you can make yourself more marketable by becoming a PADI Instructor. PADI will recognise your experience and you may only need to complete an orientation to the PADI System before going onto your Instructor Exams.
How long will it take?
The Assistant Instructor IDC Part 1 programme takes a minimum of three days. The Open Water Scuba Instructor Part 2 takes a minimum of four days, giving an overall total of a minimum of seven days for the whole programme.
The Instructor Examination is normally held over two days at various locations around the country.
Aquasport schedule weekend, evening and intensive AI and OWSI programmes suitable for even the busiest of schedules. The OWSI programmes normally coincide with a local IE date so you do not have a lengthy gap between the end of your programme and the start of the IE.
What will I need?
The PADI Divemaster or equivalent certification is required for you to start your Assistant Instructor or full IDC Part 1 and 2 programmes. Divers certified as PADI Assistant Instructors may progress straight onto Part 2. Divers certified through other agencies should contact the centre as there may be additional requirements to your certification.
A valid certification in First Aid & CPR, the EFR programme is ideal for this. A Diving Medical signed by a physician dated from within one year of your programme dates, we recommend the HSE medical if you wish to work as an Instructor in the UK.
As well as the PADI IDC Crew Pack already mentioned above, you may also find the standard PADI manuals from your previous programmes are required. Equipment rental is not included in the cost so you will need to rent from us or bring your own.
A full list of requirements is available at the centre on request.
The Fastrack IDC can be completed in as little as seven very intensive days. You will need to be prepared for your programme and not have any other commitments that may interfere with your training.
