If they are under water in scuba gear, then they must be diving!
SCUBA stands for Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus. The Discover Scuba Diving Experience is the first adventure into the underwater world using full SCUBA equipment. It starts with a short classroom session with an interesting DVD, followed by an introduction and safety briefing. Then it’s straight into our onsite pool for an introduction to diving using a full set of professional scuba equipment. It’s hard to imagine how simple it is and how easy it is to use.
It’s so simple, the Discover Scuba Diving programme lets young people experience the thrill of the aquatic world using scuba equipment and experience the weightlessness of space. During the session they will have great fun practising the basic concepts of scuba diving. There is no doubt about it, if they are underwater in scuba gear, then they are definitely diving!
What do they need to start?
They will need to be reasonably comfortable in the water and that’s it. We take safety very seriously and it is important that the equipment used fits properly. As such the age limit is used as a guide for young people. If we have the equipment to fit, then they can dive. We have specialised children’s equipment with sizes down to XXXS so we know there will be no disappointments. There is also a self certification medical that needs to be completed, more on that below in ‘requirements’.
What will they do?
After the Discover Scuba Diving DVD and safety brief with the instructors, it’s into the pool in no time. They will enter the water ready for a scuba adventure. There is no set format, it’s more about having fun and enjoying the experience so it’s ideal for groups comprising of different ages. When they take part in a Discover Scuba Diving experience they will discover excitement and adventure. Nothing compares to the “weightless” exhilaration of breathing underwater. Only a diver knows the feeling!
How long will it take?
The whole session is two hours from start to finish and they will spend most of this time in the pool.
What will they need to bring along with them?
Just a swimming costume, a towel and a sense of adventure, we supply the rest. We will need a signed copy of the Discover Scuba Diving Statement for each person; this contains a self certification medical form. For any young person under the age of 18yrs this will need to be completed and signed by a parent or guardian prior to the session. This statement is available for download here. If you have any questions regarding the form or the medical statement, please call us at the centre for further guidance.
What can they do after Discover Scuba Diving?
As with the Discover Snorkelling session they can do the Discover Scuba Diving as many times as they like. However, as soon as they are in the water, they are on their way to an internationally recognized certification. That is because if you wish they may learn skills used in the Level 5 PADI Scuba Diver or Level 6 PADI Open Water Diver courses during their Discover Scuba Diving adventure. Check out the Level 5 PADI Scuba Diver and Level 6 PADI Open Water Diver pages on this website for more information on the next step.
