The PADI Tec 40 Diver is your first full step on the technical ladder. It is where you transition your skills and mind set from recreational scuba diving to technical diving. It's a great place to start because it's the first subdivision of the full PADI Tec Diver course and bridges the gap between no stop diving and full technical deep decompression diving. Using the equipment you are already used to diving with, you will extend your recreational diving skills by planning and executing dives with a limited amount of decompression. The training is centred on you and the skills that make extended range diving safer and more enjoyable.
Minimum age: 18 years
Course prerequisites: PADI Advanced Open Water Diver with a minimum of 30 logged dives, PADI Deep Diver and PADI Enriched Air Diver certifications.
What will I do?
Throughout the PADI Tec 40 course you gain experience and begin building the knowledge and skills you need for technical diving. You will qualify to make limited decompression dives to 40 metres.
The PADi Tec 40 course consists of three knowledge development sections, three practical application sessions and four training dives. You will learn about:
- Technical diving's risks and responsibilities
- Technical diving equipment, proper rigging and set up
- Gas planning, oxygen limits and decompression planning
- Team diving techniques and emergency procedures, such as dealing with free flows, manifold leaks and out of gas situations
The first two dives are done in shallow water and go through a series technical diving skills from valve shutdowns to long hose sharing. On the third dive you will do a simulated decompression, then on the final dive you will do a full decompression dive to 40 metres where you’ll put all that you’ve learnt into practice.
How do I get started?
Just pick your dates if you can and pay your £199 deposit and you will receive your PADI Tec 40 eLearning. Do not worry if you cannot commit to a date straight away, as you can get started on the home study as soon as you have received your pack.
How long will it take?
The PADI Tec 40 course takes place over three days. The first day will be based at our centre in Solihull. In the classroom you will review the basics of technical diving equipment, various types of configuration, dive planning, gas planning, emergency situations and decompression models with your PADI Tec Instructor.
There are then four open water dives to complete over the next two days.
What will I need?
To enrol in the PADI Tec 40 course, you must be over 18 years old, a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver with the PADI Enriched Air Diver and PADI Deep Diver certifications. You must have a minimum of 30 logged dives.
All the technical diving equipment you will need to complete this programme is included in the cost to give you a head start in technical diving.
If you are looking at getting into technical diving we believe you should already have your own standard recreational diving equipment such as a dry suit or other exposure suit, mask and fins. We will supply a twin cylinder set including backplate, wing and regulators, as well as a full deco cylinder rig. If you already have your own equipment we are happy for you to use this for the dives. All scuba equipment will need to be within its service date, usually 12 months. Any other equipment required can be hired from Aquasport at the reduced student daily rate.
If you have limited experience with a twin set we can supply single cylinder or sidemount sets as an alternative. However why not first book on to our Twin Set Specialty or the PADI Tec Basics course. Both of these will allow you to gain experience using technical diving equipment. Once you have completed either of these courses you can increase your dive time by hiring the sets and joining us on any of the regular club dives we organise.
You will need to have a Medical Statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months. If you have any medical conditions that you think may prevent you from scuba diving, please feel free to contact us and we will try to be of assistance.
How much does it cost?
PADI Tec 40 course £549
A £199 deposit is required when you book your course with Aquasport and you will receive your PADI Tec 40 eLearning.
