The PADI Tec 50 Diver again takes you further and deeper than the Tec 45 by going beyond basic decompression diving and into the realms of staged, accelerated decompression diving using different gas mixes and multiple cylinders. There is no time limit to the amount of decompression you can do, other than the amount of gas you are carrying in your cylinders. More time is spent on advanced equipment requirements and configuration as well advanced gas planning and support diving.

During your PADI Tec 50 course, you will learn the knowledge and skills to make extended range dives to a maximum of 50m. You will make dives with multiple decompression stops using two decompression gases. It is not easy to reach this level. Earning your PAdi Tec 50 certification opens the door to deeper diving expeditions.

Minimum age: 18 years

Course prerequisites: PADI Tec 45 Diver with a minimum of 100 logged dives and a PADI Rescue Diver with proof of CPR/First Aid training within the previous two years. Please note that we accept equivalent certifications from other recognised diving agencies.

What will I do?

The primary focus of this course is building on the skills you learnt during your PADI Tec 45 training. You will use a second deco cylinder during dives using multiple gas mix staged decompression stops. You also sharpen your thinking as a technical diver.

The PADI Tec 50 course consists of five knowledge development sections, four practical application sessions and four training dives. You will learn about:

  • Advanced dive equipment options
  • Techniques and procedures using two deco cylinders
  • Complex dive planning
  • Support diving considerations
  • Advanced team diving techniques and emergency skills

How do I get started?

Just pick your dates if you can and pay your £199 deposit and you will receive your PADI Tec 50 eLearning. Do not worry if you cannot commit to a date straight away, as you can get started on the home study as soon as you have received your eLearning.

How long will it take?

The PADI Tec 50 course takes place over three days. The first day will be based at our centre in Solihull. In the classroom you will further review technical diving equipment, various types of configuration, advanced dive planning, advanced gas planning, emergency situations and multi-stage decompression models with your PADI Tec Instructor.

There are then four open water dives to complete over the next two days.

What will I need?

To enrol in the Tec 50 course, you must be over 18 years old, a PADI Tec 45 Diver and a PADI Rescue Diver with proof of CPR/First Aid training within the previous two years. You must have a minimum of 100 logged dives.

At this stage of your technical diver training, you should have your own standard recreational diving equipment such as a dry suit or other exposure suit, mask and fins, as well as twin set cylinders, back plate and wing system and regulators, and at least one full deco cylinder rig. If you already have your own equipment we are happy for you to use this for the dives. All scuba equipment will need to be within its service date, usually 12 months. Any other equipment required, including any of the technical equipment, can be hired from Aquasport at the reduced student daily rate. The use of a second deco cylinder rig is included in the cost of the course.

If you have limited experience with the equipment, or you do not yet meet the prerequisite requirments, you can increase your dive time by hiring the sets and joining us on any of the regular club dives that we organise.

You will need to have a Medical Statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months. If you have any medical conditions that you think may prevent you from scuba diving, please feel free to contact us and we will try to be of assistance.
