As you progress beyond the PADI Open Water Diver level, you will be moving up and experiencing adventures dives such as deep diving, wreck diving and much more. Why miss diving on that wreck just because it lies at 28m, or hanging up your fins when October arrives because you have never used a drysuit? With your PADI Instructor you will build on the diving skills you have already mastered and boost your confidence in the many areas of diving yet undiscovered. The PADI Advanced Open Water includes three months Club Aquasport membership worth £30.

Minimum age: 12 years

Course prerequisites: PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver (or equivalent certification)

What will I do?

You will complete two core dives, Deep and Navigation. These two dives are fundamental to your diver education. The Deep Dive extends your recommended maximum depth to 30 metres by allowing you to experience the effects of pressure at depth under the guidance of your PADI Instructor. The Navigation Dive expands on the skills you were taught during your PADI Open Water Diver programme.

In addition, you will do three adventure dives from the Adventures in Diving manual. These include, but are not limited to, Dry Suit, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Search & Recovery, Wreck, Night and DPV. These dives can be arranged with your Instructor and fellow divers to suit the areas which interest you and the group the most.

How do I get started?

Just pick your dates if you can and pay your £199 deposit and you will receive your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver eLearning login, which you will need to start the programme. Don't worry if you can't commit to a date straight away. There are plenty scheduled throughout the year and you can get started on the home study as soon as you have received your eLearning code.

How long will it take?

The PADI Advanced Open Water Diver can be completed in as little as one weekend, starting on a Friday at 6.30pm. Midweek dives are also available by prior arrangement.

What will I need?

The PADI Advanced Open Water Diver is open to all divers holding an entry level certification equivalent to the PADI Open Water Diver (Junior Open Water Divers need to be a minimum of 12 years old).

It doesn’t matter whether you have only completed your open water qualifying dives or you have hundreds of dives in your log book. The PADI Advanced Open Water Diver has something for everyone.

As with our PADI Open Water Diver training, we will provide all the scuba equipment you need for the duration of the programme.

For the Advanced Open Water dives you will need your own dive torch, which can be purchased from the shop at the start of your programme. It is always a good move to buy your own dive computer, but we will supply one for the weekend if you prefer.

You will also need to complete a self-certification medical statement. If you have any medical conditions that you think may prevent you from scuba diving, please feel free to contact us and we will try to be of assistance.

All the PADI materials and scuba equipment needed to complete the programme are included in the cost. You will need to pay for your entry to the open water dive site and any required air fills while away from the centre. This is approximately £20 for each day.

Where can I go from here?

The PADI Advanced Open Water certification is the prerequisite qualification for the PADI Rescue Diver as well as several of the more in-depth PADI Specialties.

The PADI Advanced Open Water Diver also opens the door to many levels of technical diving available here at Aquasport. Many divers have told us that the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver programme gave them the focus on which they have based the rest of their diving education.
